On Becoming a Doctor: Insights from a 1st Generation Immigrant

In these videos, I’m going to walk you through my life—what I learned along the way, the mistakes I made, and how I finally reached my goal of becoming a doctor.

Here’s a bit of what we’ll cover:

- Facing Financial Struggles: Growing up, my family didn’t have much, but we always made sure education came first. I'll share how we made it work, even when things were tight, and how that mindset carried me through my medical career.

- My High School Hustle: I worked hard both at school and with my dad, who’s an electrician. It was during this time that I also built a strong relationship with God, a relationship that guided me through my entire career. Those early experiences of working in the family business taught me real-life lessons about discipline, hard work, and humility, but it was my faith that kept me grounded and gave me strength to push through the challenges ahead.

- College Strategies: I started with no AP credits or financial head-start, but I learned some smart strategies along the way. I’ll show you how to make the most of financial aid, how to choose the right classes, and how I managed to keep my GPA up while avoiding unnecessary classes.

- Medical School and Career Decisions: Medical school is tough, and choosing the right specialty can be even harder. I'll share why I chose my specialty and the process of figuring out my path during medical school and residency—without losing focus on what’s important.

- Lessons on Resilience and Perseverance: The truth is, it’s not always about being the smartest. It’s about showing up, putting in the effort, and learning from setbacks. I’ll tell you how that mindset helped me, especially when things didn’t go as planned.

I’m excited to share my story, and I hope it’ll help you along your own path, whether that’s medicine or something else.

I’ve been where you are, and I’m here to tell you—you can make it too.
